St. Philip and James are two of the lesser-known Apostles. However, when we take a closer look, they are all over the New Testament. Philip was from Bethsaida and speaks in the Gospels multiple times: in the miracle of the loaves and fishes, to the gentiles that want to see Jesus in Jerusalem, and he asks Jesus to show them the Father at the Last Supper. Tradition states that Philip was martyred in Greece by crucifixion (up-side down).
St. James (known as James the Lesser) was the first bishop of Jerusalem and was at the council of Jerusalem in 50 AD. He is also credited with writing the book of James, which is one of the most applicable books of the New Testament to modern times. St. James was martyred by being thrown from the top of the temple and then stoned to death.
