THE HOLY INNOCENTS

FEAST: DECEMBER 28

When King Herod found out that a Messiah had been born near Bethlehem, but the Wise Men did not return, Herod decided the best way to get rid of the threat to his throne was to kill all the boys under two in Bethlehem. Today, we remember the baby boys who were killed in place of Jesus who escaped after Joseph was warned in a dream. We also remember all of the innocent children who have died due to war, abortion, and child sacrifice. We commit them to the mercy of God and ask for their intercession.
