ST. NICHOLAS

MEMORIAL: DECEMBER 6

St. Nicholas was born in modern day Turkey during the 3rd century. He was from a wealthy family, but gave all of his inheritance to the poor. There are many famous stories about the generosity of St. Nicholas that have laid the foundation for the modern figure of Santa Claus. Nicholas became a bishop and suffered persecution in prison. After he was released, he fought against Arianism and was part of the Council of Nicea in 325. He has many miracles attributed to him and is the patron saint of bakers.
