ST. JUSTIN MARTYR

MEMORIAL: JUNE 1

Justin Martyr was born at the beginning of the second century. He grew up as an educated young man, but was pagan. Through his study of philosophy, he found the writings of the Jewish prophets. He then saw inspiration in martyred Christians. Because of these, he desired to be baptized at the age of 30 and wrote extensively on the Catholic faith, especially the mass and the Eucharist. At the end of his life, persecutions began to arise again in the Roman Empire. Justin was martyred with companions through scourging and beheading.
