ST. JOHN OF AVILA

MEMORIAL: MAY 10

St. John of Avila was born in Spain in the 1500s. It was a time of great turmoil in the Church, but also a time for great saints. John gave away all of his inheritance to the poor and became a priest. He worked for reform in the church and was friends with Sts. Francis Borgia, Ignatius of Loyola, John of God, John of the Cross, Peter of Alcantara, and Teresa of Avila. Because of his mystical writings, he became a doctor of the church.
