MEMORIAL: MAY 2
St Athanasius lived in the 4th century AD and eventually became a Bishop in the Catholic Church. He was influential in the fight against the Arian heresy that stated Jesus was not God. However, he was exiled multiple times by the Roman emperor and Arian Bishops. Despite these persecutions, he continued to be a staunch defender of the Divinity of Christ and would contribute greatly to the early councils of the Church which were important for its survival.
