ST. ANDREW

FEAST: NOVEMBER 30

St. Andrew was the older brother of Simon Peter who was the first pope. Like his brother, Andrew was a fisherman and in the Gospel of John, it is Andrew that introduces Peter to Jesus. Andrew is mentioned a couple of other times in the gospels which seem to signal his importance in the group.

After the death and resurrection of Jesus, Andrew is said to have gone to Greece and Turkey to preach the Gospel of Jesus. He was crucified in Petras on a cross in the shape of an X. Like his brother, he found himself unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as Jesus. St. Andrew is the patron saint of fishermen and singers.
