OUR LADY OF SORROWS

MEMORIAL: SEPTEMBER 15

Mary is the disciple par excellence. She accompanied Jesus from His conception to His burial. At his presentation in the temple, it was prophesied that Mary would have a sword pierce her soul. This sword is sharing in the passion of her son. As the perfect disciple, we look to Mary as the example for following the will of God, even when it means following Jesus to the cross.

Mary’s sufferings on the road to calvary were not only for the good of souls, but also as an example of what it means to be united with Jesus. No one experienced greater sorrow at the crucifixion, and consequently no one experienced greater joy in the resurrection.
