OUR LADY OF FATIMA

MEMORIAL: MAY 13

On May 13, 1917, a Lady dressed in white more brilliant than the sun appeared to three children (Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta) in Fatima, Portugal. This was the beginning of 6 Marian apparitions to the children. They underwent many persecutions and disbelief at first. However, many came to believe by the final apparition. On October 13, 1917, an estimated 70,000 people showed up on a rainy day.

While Mary appeared to the children, the crowd saw the sun spinning in the sky, changing colors, and even hurtling toward the earth. After a time, it returned to its normal position in the sky, but that day is referred to as “the miracle of the sun” and many came to believe.

In her apparitions, Mary instructed the world to pray the rosary every day, called for the consecration of Russia, showed the children a vision of Hell, and shared with them one secret, given to them in three parts. Mary’s apparition was one of warning and mercy and if we heed her warnings, follow her instructions, mercy will be given through the power of her Son.
