St. Lawrence was born in Naples in the late 16th century. At the age of 16, Lawrence became a Capuchin and was educated by the Franciscans. He quickly became known for his preaching and writings. He led his order at a young age and opened friaries all over Europe. He worked for the conversion of many and particularly fought against Lutheranism. In addition, St. Lawrence was a political peace maker, but also worked to defend Hungary against the invading Turks. St. Lawrence died on a peace making mission from heat exhaustion. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church in the 20th century.
