ST. THOMAS

FEAST: JULY 3

St. Thomas is one of the most famous of the Apostles not named Peter or John. He has multiple phrases recorded in the Gospels, but is most famous for his doubting of the resurrection because he was missing from the apostles when Jesus first appeared to them. Thomas famously announced that he would not believe until he touched the wounds of Christ. When Jesus appears to them a second time with Thomas present, He invites Thomas to touch and believe. Thomas does and proclaims his belief.

It is said that Thomas was the only Apostle to witness the Assumption and can be depicted in art with a girdle. After Pentecost, Thomas went to the middle east and eventually to India where he died spreading the Good News of Jesus and baptizing. St. Thomas is the patron saint of architects.
