PRAYING FOR THOSE WITH WHOM YOU DISAGREE

The world feels so heavy right now. Division, strife, and despair are common themes in everyday life. There are so many things I want to DO to help those in need, and have turned to prayer as often as I can. But a few years ago I felt so overwhelmed and anxious at the magnitude of what to pray for. I wanted to pray for truth to reign, for those suffering loss, for those with the responsibility of authority that they use it well. And most of all, I felt called to pray for those who I disagreed with and those that had true hate in their hearts. But where does one even begin, especially when trying to pray for those you don’t agree with or don’t understand?

After much prayerful reflection, the Holy Spirit moved my heart to put all those I wanted to pray for into intentions for my daily Rosary. At first, I didn’t like that the groups were too general. But I soon realized that Jesus can take our prayers and make them perfect, applying them to the people in time and space that need them most. And by using the Rosary, the Blessed Mother helps emphasize our prayers to the Lord and He hears all we say.

Below are some ideas of how to pray for people around the world and in your own communities; people you know, people you don’t know, people with whom you agree, and people with whom you disagree. I hope you find it helpful and that your prayers go from your lips to God’s ears!
