ST. MICHAEL, ST. GABRIEL & ST. RAPHAEL, ARCHANGELS

FEAST: SEPTEMBER 29

Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael play a major role in salvation history. Their mission from God has been to help humans love and serve God just as they do. Michael is the captain of God’s army who cast Satan out of heaven. He constantly battles for souls at the hour of their death. Michael’s name means, “Who is like God?”

Gabriel is God’s messenger throughout the Bible. He appears for the announcement of the birth of Jesus to Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds. Gabriel’s name means, “God’s Strength.”

Raphael is concerned with the healing power of God. He is only explicitly named once in the Bible in the book of Tobit, but his influence is seen throughout the Bible in miraculous healings. Raphael’s name means, “God has healed.”

All three archangels continue to work today with all choirs of angels for the glorification of God and our salvation. We ask for their intercession as we strive to be in God’s presence as they are.
